Business Solution: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Good Bad Ugly

In the wonderful of business solutions, there are the good, the bad and the ugly vendors. Here are a few examples of what these three have to offer in terms of features, pricing security and much more.

The Good Business Solution

Amazing features

The good business solution is easy to spot. Without being overwhelming, the good (great!) business solution offers a multitude of features you will actually use. The database applications are easy to design and there are a multitude of different fields available to simplify your data management. Great features also include customizable searches and related reports. On a daily use, a last good to have feature is a dashboard you can build custom for your personal use or share with other users in your account.

Easy to learn

A good business solution should be straight forward and quick to pick up. The terminology is clear, well organized and using words most people will understand. There should not be too many tabs or screens to navigate through but enough to have all your amazing features well organized.

The Bad Business Solution

Unfair pricing

Fair pricing is a deal breaker for most businesses shopping for a new business solution. A rule of thumb would be, if the vendor charges you more than $30 per user, I truly hope you have extraordinary features and support to justify that kind of pricing. When it comes to support, it should either be included in your monthly or yearly subscription, or at least, the percentage extra should clearly be stated before you sign up with the vendor. There is nothing worst then making a call for support and realizing that you would have to pay 20% extra to get the support to deserve and the answer you desperately need ASAP.

Import/Export

Moving uncomplicated data from spreadsheet to database application should be quick and easy. If you have to work very hard or pay a huge amount of money to import your basic data into your new business solution, there is a problem. For sure, you will have to update your spreadsheet to make it importable but it shouldn’t be an herculean task. On the other hand, if you need to export your data out of your database, it should literally be as easy as a click of a button. There are many reasons why you could want to export your data and your system should be a break to your need.

The Ugly Business Solution

No support

What is even worst then having to pay unexpected extra for support? That would be to have no support at all. If your emails and calls go unanswered or bounce or if your vendor is suddenly moving to a new company without notice or a suitable announced replacement, you may be facing an ugly business solution. The attitude of your vendor during the buying process is a good indicator of what to expect when you go from prospect to customer. Stay away from the shady  and too good to be true ventures and listen to your gut feeling.

Security issues

Just when you thought things could not get worse, here it is. Even more troublesome than the lack of support is a security breach causing your business data to be scattered over the Internet or a system shutdown causing an irreversible loss of data. When considering to acquire a new business solution, there are many features you should be looking for but the security aspects of the software should be your number one priority. Better safe than sorry, right?
